YDFS solves this problem by registering and providing neighborhood stores with a Mobile Money (MoMo) wallet which makes it easy for you to perform financial transactions such as transferring and depositing money, buying airtime and data, and paying your utility bills.

With valid proof of identification, a permanent shop address in your neighborhood or community, and a working capital of N20,000 you can register to become a MoMo agent. 

To find a MoMo agent in your locality, simply Dial *223# and follow the prompt. After following all the processes you will get an SMS message with the address and contact details of the MoMo agents in your locality.

Who Is A MoMo Agent?

A MoMo agent or Mobile Money agent is an individual with a permanent shop address in your neighborhood or community registered with YDFS (MTN’s subsidiary company) to provide mobile money services to you. 

If you are looking to send or deposit money, buy airtime and data, and pay your bills, the MoMo agent is at your service. With the MoMo agent’s POS machine, you need not go through the stress of visiting a Bank to perform financial transactions.

How To Become A MoMo Agent

To become a MoMo agent you have the option of:  

• Visiting the nearest MTN office to pick a form.
• To self-onboard using a dedicated USSD code.
• Visit www.mtn.ng to download an application form and then get contacted for a visit to ascertain qualification.

Before undergoing any of the registration processes, you need to fulfill some requirements which are:

• Have an existing business or be willing to invest in an agency business. 
• Have a permanent retail shop location that is immovable. 
• Have a  relevant means of identification (e.g Driver’s license,  international passport, Voter’s card, etc).
• Provide 1 passport photograph.
• Provide a working capital of N20,000 and above.

To register as a MoMo agent follow the steps below:

Step 1: Visit The Nearest MTN Outlet

• Visit the nearest MTN outlet/office closest to you.
• Pick up a MoMo agent registration form.
• Provide your details (a valid form of identification, a running capital of at least N20,000, and a store in your neighborhood). 

Step 2: Dial *502# On Your Phone Number 

• Dial *502# on your registered MTN phone number. 
• You will receive a prompt asking you to approve your SIM registration details to be used to open your wallet.
• Send ‘1’ to accept the terms and conditions. 
• In the next step, create a 4-digit pin.
• Reconfirm your pin and create your wallet. 
• After the process is complete, you get an SMS message confirming your new MoMo agent wallet.

Step 3: Download An Application Form

• Download an application form on www.mtn.ng. 
• Print and fill in your personal details. 
• Wait to be contacted by MTN field staff to fix a visit to ascertain your qualification. 

How To Get MoMo Wallet Code Number In Nigeria

Step 1: Dial *671# On Your Phone

• Dial *671# on your registered MTN phone number. 
• You will get a prompt telling you of a network charge of N6.98 on your wallet.
• Send ‘1’ to accept and proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Create A 4-Digit Pin

• Create a 4-digit pin.
• Confirm the 4-digit pin.
• Authorize MoMo to use your NIN details to register an account for you.

After completing these processes, you will get an SMS message confirming the creation of your MoMo Wallet and your MoMo Wallet number.  Your MoMo account number will be your mobile number without the initial ‘0’ in the number. 

How To Link MoMo Wallet To Bank Account In Nigeria

Step 1: Visit The Nearest Branch Of Your Bank

• Visit your bank and request the linking of your MoMo Wallet with your bank account. 
• Provide your MoMo Wallet details and other necessary details. 
• The bank staff will proceed to complete the process after you’ve confirmed your PIN.
• Once done you will get an SMS confirmation alert. 

To send money from your MoMo Wallet to your bank account follow the steps below:

• Dial *502# with your MoMo Wallet registered phone number. 
• Select “4” to access financial services and then “1” for bank transfers.
• After selecting the above, go on to choose “transfer to bank.”
• Select your linked bank account.
• Enter the amount you want to transfer. 
• Confirm the transaction with your MoMo 4-digit pin.

Once done, you will get a prompt and later an SMS message containing the details of your transaction.

How To Fund MoMo Wallet

Step 1: Use Mobile Banking App

• Log in to your mobile banking app.
• Navigate to the transfer section. 
• Select transfer to other banks.
• Select “Access Yello and Beta” as the bank name.
• Enter your MoMo Wallet account number. 
• Confirm your MoMo Wallet name.
• Enter the amount to be transferred and confirm.
• Type in your mobile banking pin and complete the transaction. 

Once the transaction is successful, your MoMo account will be funded.

Step 2: Through Other MoMo Agents

• Locate a MoMo agent using *223#.
• After finding an agent, deposit cash and give your MoMo wallet account number to the agent. 
• Await the transfer. 
• Once successful, confirm the funding with *502#.

To confirm if your MoMo account has been funded follow the steps below: 

• Dial *502# with your registered MoMo wallet phone number. 
• Send “5” to access “balance/commission.”
• Enter your 4-digit pin to confirm.
• The details of your MoMo Wallet account will be sent to you via SMS.

How To Locate A MoMo Agent

To find a MoMo agent, simply: 

• Dial *223# on a registered MTN sim number. 
• You get a prompt asking you to type in full, the first 3 letters of the state where you want to locate an agent.
• Do the above and type in the first 3 letters of the Local Government Area you want to locate a MoMo agent.
• You will get an SMS with the address and contact number of the MoMo agents available in your desired location.
